At a closed door meeting of the TMC leadership today, Banerjee went hammer and tongs against the Modi government and BJP for pushing the country towards financial anarchy.
"Our supremo Mamata Banerjee said that she will fight till the end against the anti-people decision which has imposed an undeclared financial emergency in the country. Never before the country has faced such a situation. The step has been taken to help a handful siphon off their black money at the cost of sufferings of the common man," a senior TMC leader said quoting Banerjee.
"There will be many rallies to protest against demonetisation. We will try to unite the opposition parties against the Modi government. We need to carry forward the unity that was forged by opposition parties in and outside Parliament. But our party will not support any strike or bandh as it puts stress on economy and increase the sufferings of common man," another TMC leader told PTI after the meeting.
The ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal had announced a rally in the city on November 28.
The Left parties in West Bengal, including CPI-M and CPI, yesterday called a 12-hour statewide strike on November 28 to protest against demonetisation, even as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee refrained from supporting the strike call.
