A meeting of the District Core Committee on Bru repatriation held at Mamit town today decided all officials to be involved in the repatriation process should make immediate necessary arrangements.
Five teams of officials were entrusted to undertake verification of villages where the repatriated Brus would be resettled and also verify whether land for jhum cultivation would be available for them.
Rs 7.87 crore released by the Centre was estimated to be sufficient to take back 669 Bru families, the officials said adding around 350 families were proposed to be repatriated during the sixth phase.
The proposed sixth phase repatriation was stalled due to announcement of the Lok Sabha elections, while civil societies in the state demanded that all Brus should be repatriated soon.
