Tariq Ahmad, who never faced trial in the two criminal cases against him and was declared a proclaimed offender with a Rs 25,000 reward for information leading to his arrest, was caught near Old Delhi Railway Station on February 14.
According to the police, he was arrested in 2004 in connection with a cheating case and for stealing documents of a flat from the office of Delhi Development Authority. An FIR was lodged in both the cases.
On February 14, the Crime Branch received information that Ahmad went to Fatehpuri, near Old Delhi Railway Station, in the evening hours and a trap was laid for him. He was apprehended the same day, police said.
On being interrogated, he revealed that for the last 12 years he was residing at Ajmer in Rajasthan, police said, adding that since there was a possibility that he may be involved in crimes there, the authorities there have been informed about his arrest.
