A man accused of cheating E-rickshaw owners with the promise of arranging registration of their vehicles has been arrested, police said today.
The accused Devender Kumar (32), was arrested from his office in Pitampura. His accomplish and main accused Vinod Pandey is on the run, said Vijay Singh, DCP (north west).
The duo have cheated around 41 E-Rickshaw drivers by taking money from them for arranging E-Rickshaw registration. They took an amount of Rs 3.71 lakh from them without doing anything, he said.
Police received complaints from E-rickshaw owners about the fraud wherein they were promised registration and were made to pay Rs 10,000-12,00 by the accused at their office in Shivaji Market in Pitampura.
A case was registered at Rani Bagh police station and investigation was taken up. During a raid in the office of the accused Devender Kumar was arrested while the main accused Vinod Pandey is yet to be arrested, said the officer.
Devender had approached the E-rickshaw owners near Vishwavidyalaya Metro station after which they had gone to the office in Pitampura and paid Rs 10,000-12,000 to the duo.
They got suspicious when they were told to take their vehicles to Rohini for repair and registration. When they demanded back their money they were told to come to the office on December 12 morning but no one was there, he added.
Police has seized many documents including registration forms and details of drivers stored in a computer.
