Police said the man was arrested following the lodging of an FIR by the woman's parents.
Police said the woman had reportedly spoken to her parents at Dhupguri, about 25 km away, over phone at around 4.30 pm yesterday but was informed by her in-laws an hour later that she was being rushed to a hospital at Banarhat as she was unwell.
When her family rushed to the hospital where they found the woman dead and the noose round her neck.
As per the FIR lodged with the police the woman got married in February this year and has since then been tortured by her husband, who demanded money from her father.
The woman's in-laws are absconding since the incident, the police said.
