According to PI MJ Bagga of Naupada police station the accused Mahesh Tarkar, a resident of Kalwa, tried to force a marriage on the woman, who denied his proposal.
Yesterday noon, the accused once again met the woman at her residence and informed him that he was in love with her and hence had divorced his wife. However, the woman refused to live with him resulting in a quarrel between the two.
He then tried to strangulate her to death. A melee ensued and Tarkar again hit her on the head with a revolver before trying to molest her. However, the woman escaped, police said.
The accused was arrested in the wee hours today. He was booked under sections 307, 354 of the IPC and also sections 3 and 12 of the Arms Act.
The accused worked in a private firm and woman was pursuing her studies at Dombivli.
