A 30-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly duping a Japanese tourist of Rs 9,000 at Connaught Place here, on the pretext of facilitating tours to Jaipur and Agra, the police said today.
The Japanese tourist was recently roaming in Connaught Place, where some touts interacted and misguided him. They duped the tourist of Rs 9,000 on the pretext of the tours, DCP (New Delhi) Madhur Verma said.
On the complaint of the tourist, a case under Delhi Prevention of Touting and Malpractices Against Tourists Act, 2010, was registered at BK Road police station. During investigation, accused Sujal Raheja was arrested, he said.
A team of special staff has been formed to check the activities of touts in Connaught Place. The team keeps close watch on tourist hotspots including Connaught Place and Scindia House areas frequented by the tourists.
