A man, who had allegedly killed a woman and raped her daughter in Odisha's Bhadrak district, was arrested and today confessed to murdering the girl's father as well, police said.
The man was netted in Bhubaneswar yesterday by tracking his mobile phone when he was planning flee the state, Bhadrak superintendent B Gangadhar said.
The case was cracked within two days of the crime that took place on Sunday night at Talasitha village under Dhamnagar police station, police said.
During interrogation, the accused confessed that he had murdered the man and his wife for Rs two lakh which they had got recently. The murder was "pre-planned" and the accused wanted to eliminate all family members, the SP said.
The murdered man's body was recovered from a canal near Kalitra in the same area to where the accused led the police.
Gangadhar said the accused allegedly shared drinks with the man on Sunday night. When the man was inebriated, the accused pushed him into the water-filled canal a few kilometres away from the village.
Thereafter, the accused went to the man's house and killed his wife with a stone after she opened the door to him, the SP said adding he had also planned to kill the girl after raping her and to flee with the money, he said.
However, the accused was compelled to leave after raping the girl but without the money as he heard neighbours' voices outside the house.
Investigation is in progress and the accused was being questioned, the police said.
