Man arrested for sending vulgar messages to woman

A 32-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly sending vulgar messages and pornographic contents to a woman in Odisha's Jajpur district.

The accused, a resident of Deulpur village in the district was arrested based on the complaint lodged by the mother of the woman, a college student, said Niranjan Sabar, Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Bayree police station.

The accused had been allegedly harassing the 18-year-old woman for quite a while by sending obscene messages, he said.

The woman on Sunday brought the matter to the notice of her mother who then approached the police.

Based on the complaint lodged by the mother of the woman on Sunday, the police registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of IPC and Information and Technology Act, 2000 and started investigation into the incident.

"We conducted raids at various locations since Sunday night and arrested the accused," the IIC said.

The accused was forwarded to the local court and later remanded to judicial custody for 14 days after his bail plea was rejected, police said.
