Amarjeet alias Chup Ram (25) was friends with the victim's father and had allegedly consumed liquor with him on November 20, the day of the incident. He is a native of Bihar and had been staying near the victim's shanty for the last three to four years, a senior police officer said.
The accused lured the girl on the pretext of giving her sweets. He then sexually assaulted the victim before smothering her. The girl's body was found near the railway tracks in the wee hours of November 21, the officer said.
