A man was arrested from here for withdrawing money from his dead mother's bank account after submitting fake life certificate to the bank, police said today.
The manager of a public sector bank in Hooghly district lodged a police complaint alleging that Nandan Mitra was submitting fake life certificate of his dead mother Sarathi Mitra and withdrawing money from her bank account, the police said.
Nandan's mother a retired school teacher had died in 2010 but he was submitting fake life support to the bank and withdrawing money from her account, they said.
Every year in the month of November a pensioner has to submit a life certificate to the bank.
Based on the complaint lodged by the bank, Nandan was arrested from his Goaltuli residence here, police said, adding further investigations were on.
