Israeli police has arrested a 52-year-old man for allegedly threatening to assassinate Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The man, who also threatened to kill the police officers who would come to arrest him, was nabbed from the northern coastal city of Netanya.
The motives of the suspect and details of the threat were not immediately clear, but it came to light during a conversation with a social worker who notified the police, the Jerusalem Post reported.
Tensions in the Jewish-state are running high after Netanyahu led coalition lost majority in the Knesset (Israeli parliament) earlier this week and fresh elections were announced for March 17 next year.
Opinion polls conducted after the government fell, present a bleak future for the Israeli Premier. The polls suggest some of his own colleagues from the Likud party command more popular support than Netanyahu himself.
