Rajan Singh, a resident of Nagapur, was arrested yesterday for his alleged involvement in illegal sand mining in Maharajpur area here, SP (Rural) Surendra Tiwari said.
Two licensed rifles were also seized from his possession, he said.
During an investigation, administrative officers found that illegal mining was being carried out on a massive scale in Nagapur, Sidholi and other villages on the banks of Ganga, he said.
On district administration's order, a case was registered against Rajan yesterday following which he was arrested.
Administration and police officers who failed to check illegal mining will be probed, he added.
