Police has foiled a bid by a man to smuggle gold biscuits and ornaments into Jammu and Kashmir and handed him over to the Commercial Taxes Department.
A police team conducted surprise checking at TapyalMorh in Kathua district and nabbed Bodh Raj, a resident of Jammu, from a bus coming from Delhi and seized 1.338 kg of gold biscuits, coins and ornaments, which were being smuggled into the state without valid documents and by evading tax, a police officer said.
During preliminary questioning, the accused claimed the gold belongs to a jewellery shop in Jain Bazaar of Jammu, he said.
Accordingly, Raj was handed over to the Commercial Taxes Department at the Lakhanpur check post for taking further action into the matter, he said.
