The incident took place around 1 PM when an argument between the couple over money for alcohol triggered the violent act following which the accused, identified as Ramswarup, fled the scene.
Hearing the screams, the owner of the house alerted the police. By the time police reached the spot, the wife, Pramila, had already succumbed to injuries.
Later in the evening, police nabbed Ramswarup.
Both Ramswarup and Pramila were labourers. Their two sons Pawan and Sanjay were in the house when the incident took place.
