The theft occurred this morning when jewellery businessman Mangal Singh, who had arrived in the city on July 31, was taking bath, Raigarh City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Satyendra Singh said.
Singh in his complaint alleged that a person named M Raja Rao, staying in the room opposite to his, has committed the crime, the CSP said.
He has been staying at a lodge in Kotwali police station area here.
During his stay, Rao befriended him and while he had gone to take bath, Rao allegedly decamped with the jewellery bag and checked out from the lodge, the officer said.
