The chief judicial magistrate of Bhadrak convicted 38-year-old Saroj Das and awarded the punishment, besides slapping a fine of Rs 5000 for raping a 20-year-old girl at Angargadia village under Bhandaripokhari police station.
According to the prosecution, Das forcibly took away the girl March 10, 2013 while she was returning home from paddy field and raped her.
The victim, who was born deaf and dumb, narrated her plight to her mother through gestures. The mother told her son Bikash about the incident.
