Pronouncing the judgement under section 302 of IPC (murder), the district sessions court judge Shyma Sundar Mishra said that 30-year-old Meenaketan Seth be hanged by the neck till death.
The court also sentenced Seth to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 3,000 under section 376 of IPC (rape) for satisfying his lust on the body of the victim, assistant public prosecutor (APP) Parsuram Mohapatra said.
The prosecution said that Seth had dragged the girl into a paddy field with the intent to commit rape on October 9, 2009 while she was on her way back home in Kandheikela village after serving food to her father, a farm worker.
Altogether 23 witnesses were examined during the trial which was completed on Tuesday with the order reserved for today.
