The sentence was awarded by special POCSO Judge M N Mansuri to Kesaram Salat (38), who was facing the charge of raping his 12-year-old daughter in 2015.
In its judgment, the court said the accused deserved no leniency considering the gravity of the offence.
"Being the father, it was his duty to protect the victim. However, he committed this heinous crime on his own daughter. This is indeed shameful," the court observed.
As per the case details, Salat used to live with her daughter after his wife had cut all ties with him.
In 2015, when the victim's mother came to their home, the girl informed her that she was raped repeatedly by her father, following which Salat's wife lodged a complaint against him.
