A 53-year-old man, who had allegedly beaten his brother to death with an iron pipe in east Delhi's Krishna Nagar area, has been arrested, police said today.
The accused, Ram Asre, fled to his village in UP's Farrukhabad district, after the incident and a police was sent there to nab him. He was arrested yesterday, said DCP (East) B S Gurjar.
According to the police, the incident was reported on Wednesday when 40-year-old Sarabjeet Singh was alleegedly beaten to death with an iron pipe by his brother Asre. Both of them worked in a garment factory at Krishna Nagar area.
While Singh had been working in the factory for the past few years, Aasre joined around two months ago.
At the night of the incident, the cousins joined other workers over drinks at the terrace of the factory building. They entered into an argument, after the others left, which soon ensued into a scuffle and Aasre allegedly attacked Singh with the iron pipe.
Asre fled the scene after Singh collapsed on the ground and left him lying over a pool of blood. He also locked the terrace door from outside and informed the security guard that he was leaving for his village.
Later, when a cleaner went to clear the terrace, he saw Singh's body and raised an alarm. The security guard immediately informed the factory owner, who called up the police control room and reported the matter. Singh was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead, said a police official.
The police questioned the other workers and the accused was identified in no time. A case was registered under relevant sections of IPC.
