A man was arrested for allegedly creating a fake Facebook profile of filmmaker Ayan Mukerji and blackmailing a 'struggling' actress, police said today.
Mohammed Soheb Iqbal Jetawa (27) was apprehended last night by the sleuths of unit 11 of the Crime Branch from Mumbai Central here, a senior police official said.
The accused, a resident of Dongari, had created a fake Facebook profile of Mukerji, the official said.
Mukerjee is known for directing Bollywood movies like "Wake Up Sid" and "Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani",
"Using the profile, Jetawa interacted with a struggling actress from suburban Malad and pretended to be Mukerji", he said, adding that the accused also started interacting with the actress on other social media platforms like Messenger, WhatsApp and on cell phone.
Jetawa allegedly asked the actress money "to buy an i-Phone" after which she doubted his credibility and did not communicate with him any further, said the officer.
As per police, the accused threatened to defame her by posting her pictures and personal chats on the social media.
He also made extortion calls to the actress, who then lodged a complaint against unidentified persons at the Malad police station.
During investigation, police found that a similar complaint was lodged at the Oshiwara Police Station, he said, adding that on a tip off Jetawa was arrested last night.
