The accused, identified as Karansingh Chauhan (40), used to approach people and companies, saying that he could help them get loans from banks without much paperwork, they said.
He then used to take post-dated cheques towards repayment instalments from his victims and deposited those in his own account, police said.
The accused, a resident of suburban Goregaon, was arrested yesterday and Rs 17 lakh was seized from him, they said, adding several cases had been registered against him in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
