The accused, Tyrone Nazareth, was arrested after 12 gms of charas and 12 boxes of 100 syringes were seized from his possession last evening at Calangute.
The North District police raided four premises yesterday and began combing operations in the beach belt of Calangute-Baga-Candolim in a bid to crack down on drug peddlers, after local legislators submitted names of the suspected drug lords operating in the area.
Calangute MLA Michael Lobo had last week accused police of protecting the drug trade in the coastal belt, which according to him, had reached alarming proportions.
Superintendent of Police (North) Vishram Borkar said today that the searches and raids will continue as and when police keeps on getting information.
He said police was also working on the leads provided by Lobo to crack down on the drug trade.
