A class 10th student, who was allegedly raped by a youth on July 2, committed suicide at her relatives' residence here following constant threats from the accused's family to withdraw the case, police said today.
The girl committed suicide yesterday by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her relatives' residence in Faridnagar area here, police said.
The girl along with her family had shifted from their residence in Galand area in Masuri to their relatives' house 15 days back as they were being pressurised by the accused's family to withdraw the rape case against him.
Dharmender, a student of mobile engineering, along with two accomplices abducted the girl from Galand area on July 2 and took her to an isolated place where Dharmender raped her.
Following the incident, the girl and her family filed a complaint and a case was registered against Dharmender, followed by his arrest.
The girl's family has claimed that Dharmender, a resident of the same area, belongs to an influential family and they had been pressurising them to withdraw the case.
The parents have further alleged that despite their shifting to Faridnagar, the boy's family had continued to mount pressure on them following which their daughter was mentally disturbed.
"We have sent the girl's body for post mortem examination. We would interrogate Dharmender's family and further investigation is on," a senior police officer said.
