Nanu Atchalal Bharadwaj was arrested by the Old Goa police for raping an eight-year-old girl, police said.
A complaint of rape was lodged by mother of the minor girl claiming that the incident happened at around 3 pm today, said police.
As per the complaint, the girl was playing in the backyard of her house when the accused took her into the bushes and raped her.
The girl was found in the bushes in a state of trauma by her mother, said the complaint.
The accused was hiding in the nearby bushes after the incident. He was traced by the locals and then handed over to the police.
He has been booked under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Goa Children's Act and POCSO Act.
