Man held for setting wife on fire over dowry

A 32-year-old man, who allegedly set his wife ablaze, was arrested by the police.
As per a senior Delhi Police official, the accused Jatin tried to burn his wife Dolly yesterday evening, after an argument over dowry demand.
As per the statement of the victim, her husband refused to have food until she brought Rs 2 lakh and a Honda City car from her parents, the police said.
The official said the woman's in-laws have been allegedly harassing her for the past three months.
"According to the victim's father, Santosh Verma, Jatin had even threatened to file for a divorce if she did not get them the money," the police said.

On February 26 night, Dolly's father received a phone call claiming that she had tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire, the official said.

The girl has sustained 35 per cent burn injuries.
The officials said that while an SDM enquiry has been initiated the accused and his elder brother have been arrested.
"Jatin and his brother Garav have been arrested and a case of attempt to murder and dowry harassment has been registered at Uttam Nagar police station here," DCP (West) Pushpender Kumar said.
