Man held for trying to blacken photos of Sharad Pawar, Ajit

A 26-year-old man, belonging to a party allied to the ruling BJP, was today arrested after he allegedly threw ink and tried to blacken photographs of NCP leaders Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar displayed at Baramati Hostel here, police said.
Umesh Kokare, who has been apprehended, belongs to the Rashtriya Samaj Paksh (RSP), led by Mahadev Jankar, who is minister in the Maharashtra government, they said.
Kokare along with seven others barged into the Baramati Hostel, located on Law College Road and tried to blacken the photographs, displayed on the wall at the hostel by throwing ink on them, a senior police official said.

However, their move was thwarted by security guards who caught Kokare and handed him over to police, he said.
A case has been registered against Kokare and seven unidentified persons under relevant sections of IPC at the Chatushringi police station.
After the incident, RSP and NCP workers clashed in front of the police chowky where the accused was brought.
Police also said a non-cognisable offence has been registered against NCP workers who had allegedly thrashed a worker from RSP outside the police chowky.
Last evening, NCP workers had allegedly ransacked the office of RSP on Sinhgad Road here after Jankar made some "objectionable" remarks against the Pawars during a rally at the foothills of Bhagwangad shrine in Ahmednagar district.
