Additional District Judge of Balasore R K Sahu pronounced the punishment for 32-year-old Bibhuti Mallik of Kanchipada village for killing his wife Laxmipriya Mallik.
He was awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 3000 and in default to pay the fine to undergo another 3 months of jail term.
According to the prosecution, Laxmipriya was subjected to continuous torture by her husband for more dowry. With his persistent demands not being met, Bibhuti hit her with a heavy wooden stick and she died on April 3, 2005.
