Krishnapal (45), the complainant and eyewitness in the case, died on the spot while his cousin Madanpal's condition is serious, said CO Sudhir Tomar, adding that the incident happened last night when they were returning from Muzaffarnagar.
Tomar said Krishnapal's son Ashwin, a contestant in the 2015 panchayat elections, was murdered by his rivals last year on October 27.
Krishnapal was under pressure from the group to withdraw the case, he said.
A case has been lodged at the Shahpur police station and the victim's body has been sent for postmortem, police said.
