According to police, Rambharat Singh committed the act in a fit of rage after the boyfriend of his pregnant daughter refused to marry her.
The incident occurred late last night when Rambharat took his wife Prem, 19-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son Vinod to the dam and tied all of them with a rope in a bid to drown themselves before taking the plunge, DySP S P Singh said.
However, his another son Santosh (14) managed to save himself and informed villagers about the incident who in turned alerted police.
He said Rambharat insisted that Bhim marry his daughter, but got enraged when Bhim turned down his request.
Police later fished out four bodies from the dam and booked Bhim Singh under sections 376 (rape) and 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC.
The DySP said he was taken into custody and being interrogated.
