The man, Manish Singh, and his elder daughter Pragati (7) died while his wife and younger child were battling for life at a hospital, said an official at Tulinj police station under Vasai division.
Singh, who was the sole breadwinner of his family, was under apparently stress since some time because of his indebtedness, he said.
Last night, Singh allegedly gave poison to his wife and two children and then himself also consumed it at their home in Pragati Nagar area of Nalla Sopara, he said.
The Tulinj police registered a case of accidental deaths and were investigating.
