A 27-year-old man, who was arrested on charges of abducting and raping a three-and-a-half-year-old girl, was sent to 14 days of judicial custody by a local court on Thursday.
According to police, the accused identified as Ajayraj Roy took the victim to the rooftop of his house on Tuesday and raped her.
The victim's mother and other people rushed to the spot after hearing her cries, said Bajranj Lal, the ASI at Dadabari police station.
Based on a complaint lodged by the victim's mother, a case was registered against Roy under Section 376 (rape) and 363 (punishment for kidnapping) of the IPC and provisions of the POCSO Act, Lal said.
The accused was arrested on Wednesday evening.
Roy is a daily wage labourer and lived near the victim's house in Bangali colony, the ASI said.
