The District and Sessions Court, Mayurbhanj, sentenced Sadan Singh Gagarai of Jodibil village after convicting him under section 498 (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 302 (murder) of IPC.
Gagarai (28) killed his wife Sukumani by setting her on fire on April 5, 2011. Sukumani, according to police, had poured kerosene oil over her body after a quarrel with her husband. Gagarai lit the match stick and set fire on her.
Sukumani, who was rushed to hospital with 90 per cent burn injuries, later succumbed at a hospital in Jamshedpur on April 16.
In case of default in the payment of penalty, the convict would undergo rigorous imprisonment for another six months, the court said.
