Bollywood celebrities Arjun Kapoor and Jacqueline Fernandez turned showstoppers for the ace designer Manish Malhotra as he opened the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016 with his collection titled "Elements".
The designer, whose creations are loved by stars, gave a glamorous twist to traditional Indian couture through his 70 ensembles last evening.
Besides Arjun and Jacqueline sashaying down the ramp in style, the evening also saw Kareena Kapoor Khan, Farah Khan, Dia Mirza, Sangeeta Bijlani, Bhumi Pednekar, Kanika Kapoor, Sophie Choudhry and Punit Malhotra cheering the designer.
His bridal wardrobe got a makeover with tailored ponchos and overlapped trousers, cocktail dresses with graceful sari drapes, off-shoulder jumpsuits with Victorian trails for the D-day.
"'Elements' has been one of my most creatively gratifying experiences. The modern Indian bride is my muse, because there really is no point in wearing a gorgeous outfit if the bride cannot have fun in it. I wanted to showcase the expanse of possibilities that young, stylish brides- and grooms-to-be could explore for their big day," Manish said in a statement.
Inspired by nature's four glories (earth, water, wind and fire), Manish also presented a capsule collection for the modern groom.
The fashion week will also see six international
designers like Lina Wassong, Melissa Coleman, Valerie Lamontagne, Igor Knezevic, Kristin Neidlinger and Chritian Bruns joining hands for the first time to present a collective showcase of fashion and technology titled "ElektroCouture".
The show will comprise of digital knitting and weaving, traditional hand processes to achieve radical shapes to 3D printing etc.
The collaborative collection will be showcased tomorrow and said to be one of the highlights of the season.
The second day of the fashion week titled "Sustainable and Indian Textile Day" will demonstrate eco-fashion in India, covering key values of sustainability holistically and at the same time celebrating the rich heritage of hand-woven luxury and contemporary aesthetic work happening in Indian handlooms and textiles.
Celebrated designer Rohit Bal, who is completing his 25 years in the fashion industry this year, will close the fashion week with the off-site grand finale at St Xavier's Collegeon April 3.
The set was one of the highlights of the show.
Created like a forest with a big white tree built on the ramp and sound of birds chirping put in the background, befitting the show's theme, which centered on nature.
