Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram
Manjhi today appreciated his biography and said if translated in English and Urdu, the book will reach more readers.
The writer of the book Ashraf Asthanwi met the CM and gifted him a copy of 'Tuti slate, aadhi pencil se Mukhyamantri ki kursi tak Jitam Ram Manjhi'. Written in Hindi, the biography portrays the rise of Manjhi from abject poverty.
"The book, though incomplete, touches those subtle episodes of my life, which are rarely discussed. People do not want to talk about them despite knowing those incidents. I am thankful to the author for writing about them and publisher Monazir Suhail for publishing it," Manjhi said.
The Chief Minister, who belongs to a Mahadalit (poorest among the SC) caste, hails from Mahkar village in Gaya district and has at times talked about the hardships he faced in completing his school and college education. His father worked as a labourer for one of the landlords in that area.
