British orthopaedic surgeon and knee specialist Dr Andrew Williams, who had worked with the likes of Andrew Flintoff, Shoaib Akhtar, and more recently Cheteshwar Pujara, is likely to operate him August 7.
"I'm returning on August 16 and thereafter will go for rehab at NCA (Bangalore)," Tiwary said while felicitating U-17 cricketers of Mainland Sambaran Cricket Academy who won CAB Junior Tournament.
The Bengal skipper has been ruled out for about six months as he is set to miss out on the initial stages of the Ranji Trophy.
In Tiwary's absence, Wriddhiman Saha is set to lead Bengal in the coming season.
In December last year, he was prescribed six weeks rest after sustaining a back injury during the Ranji Trophy.
As a result, he missed the T20I and ODI series against both England and Pakistan.
Also present in the occasion, Olympian and former India football captain P K Banerjee urged the youngsters to imbibe a never-say-die attitude.
"Cricket has become very competitive these days. Playing for India is difficult but to cement your place is tougher."
