Many AP villages marooned as Godavari floods; relief work on

Several villages under Devipatnam mandal of East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh remained marooned as river Godavari was in spate today even as a second warning has been issued at Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowaleswaram.
About 15 families at Veeravaram Lanka and 10 at Thoyyeru were evacuated to safer places as the two island villages were marooned, according to an official communication issued here.
In Polavaram mandal in West Godavari district, 20 persons, trapped in a flood-hit village were moved to safety.
As much as 13.54 lakh cusecs of flood water was being discharged into the Bay of Bengal from Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage as the water level touched 14.30 feet at 7 PM tonight.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Chief Secretary I Y R Krishna Rao reviewed the situation with Collectors of West Godavari and East Godavari districts and directed them to send senior officials to flood-affected areas to supervise relief operations.
Control rooms have been opened at the East Godavari district collectorate at Kakinada, Sub-Collector's office in Rajahmundry, Revenue Divisional Office at Amalapuram and other mandal headquarters, the official communication said.
The Chief Minister asked the district Collectors to closely monitor the situation and take all steps for rescue and relief of flood-affected persons.
