District superintendent of police (rural) Koya Pravin said that Rao was involved in six murders, among other offences.
This apart, 11 members of Maoist militia surrendered before the police, he said.
Korra Santhi, one of the active members from Kalimela dalam, surrendered as she was not getting proper medical treatment while with the Maoists, he said.
Others who surrendered were identified as G Satish, V Chitti Babu, T Arjun, P Sambasiva, G Sundar Rao, G Bheema Raju, G Bhaskara Rao, P Balakrishna, T Chinna Rao, G Subbarao.
