An unknown online bidder from South Korea snapped up six of the suits worn by the 'Iron Lady' in the early part of her career.

An anonymous bidder in the auction room won the business suit that Lady Thatcher sported the day that she was elected leader of the Conservatives in 1975, the Daily Mail reported.

The jade green, wool suit composed of a piped jacket and silk-topped dress with tie neck and belt went for the most money, raising 25,000 pounds.

A navy suit that she wore for an episode of Val Meets the VIPs, with former Blue Peter presenter Valerie Singleton, went for 13,750 pounds.

The remaining five suits were sold for 6,875 pounds each.

They included a striking canary yellow, wool sleeveless dress and jacket that Thatcher wore at her first party conference as leader in 1975.

"These outfits were worn at the beginning of her career, when she got the 'milk snatcher' tag, and were part of important moments like her introduction as leader at the Conservative Party conference," Pat Frost, head of Christie's textiles department, said.

Thatcher used to tell interviewers that value for money was a key factor in her choice of outfits.

She would often do small alterations, such as taking up hems, herself, a skill she learnt from her dressmaker mother.

Margaret Thatcher, 86, held the office of British Prime Minister from May 4, 1979 to November 28, 1990.
