He was also slapped with a fine of Rs 3,000 by Mahila court judge Mariyayee.
The prosecution case was that the 33-year-old man, a father of two, had kidnapped the girl in 2009 and taken her to various places, including Mettur.
The mother filed a complaint following which police conducted investigations, located the man and the girl at Mettur on Wednesday last and arrested him.
The girl was restored to her parents, police said.
