Amid the opposition LDF's unrelenting attack on his government over various issues such as the bar bribery scam, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy continued with his pet 'Mass Contact Programme', completing the 10th leg of MCP in Kottayam today.
Since kickstarting the programme on April 20, Chandy has directly received thousands of petitions from the people.
Today he sanctioned Rs 4.30 crore to beneficiaries and also announced 15 projects for the comprehensive development of Kottayam district.
An amount of Rs 50 crore was handed over to Supplyco towards payment of arrears to paddy farmers.
In the MCP, petitioners were called in the order of their meeting time with the CM and the information on settled decisions were announced on the spot itself.
As per schedule, four more such programmes are to be held -- at Idukki on May 28, Thrissur on June 4, Kannur on June 8 and Palakkad on June 11.
This is the third-leg of the much acclaimed state-wide programme after he took over the reins in May 2011.
The programme also brought Chandy to international focus, with the UNDP honouring him with United Nations Public Service Award 2013 for strengthening democratic initiatives.
UDF has been under attack by rival LDF front over the solar scam and the bar bribery scam in which Finance Minister K M Mani has been accused of accepting bribe from bar owners. LDF has been on the warparth, demanding Mani's resignation over the bar bribery scam.
