Damon, who shared the best screenplay Oscar with Affleck for 'Goodwill Hunting', is in early talks to direct his debut film 'The Foreigner' for Paramount.
'The foreigner' is based on an April 4, 2008 New Yorker article 'A Murder Foretold' by David Grann, reported Deadline.
The script is by Chris Terrio, who won an Oscar for adapting Affleck's "Argo" from Tony Mendez's book 'The Master of Disguise' and Joshuah Bearman's 2007 Wired article 'The Great Escape'.
The film will tell the corruption and a series of high-level murders in Guatemala that reached all the way to the president.
The film will be produced by Film Rites' Steve Zaillian and Garrett Basch and Indian Paintbrush's Steven Rales and Mark Roybal.
The 'Elysium' star, who was recently in India on an philanthropic tour, wanted to turn director for sometime.
