Delhi University today said that maximum queries have been received for its B.El.Ed course during the pre-admission counselling session "Open Days" conducted by it in the run up to the admission process beginning on May 28.
The Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) is a first of its kind course which is exclusively for women candidates, offered only by DU.
"The attendance during the 'Open Day' sessions which welcomes queries by both students and parents has been above 500. There have been maximum queries about the B.El.Ed course," an official said.
The four year programme is an integrated course in elementary education and eliminates the need to pursue a B.Ed degree.
"The course which is only open for women candidates is offered at eight DU colleges-Aditi Mahavidayala, Institute of Home Economics, Gargi college, Shyama Prasad Mukherji College, Lady Sri Ram college, Jesus and Mary College, Miranda House and Mata Sundri College," said Tripti Bassi, DU's Teacher-in-charge and Convenor of B.El.Ed admissions.
"The admission process for the course available both in Hindi and English medium began today. The online registrations are open till June 9. There are 400 seats in total," she added.
The students are admitted through an entrance test and there is 10 per cent weightage for Class XII marks. The fee for the entrance test is Rs 500 for the General category candidates and Rs 250 for the reserved category.
Every year before the admission process begins for its undergraduate courses, Delhi University conducts 'Open Days', or sessions to give prospective applicants and their parents an idea about what awaits them.
Students and parents are invited for these sessions to get their admission-related queries addressed by the DU staff.
The 'Open Days' sessions for the 2015-16 session began on May 21 and will continue till May 30 at the varsity's Conference Centre situated opposite Botany Department in North Campus.
Admissions to over 54,000 seats in DU's undergraduate courses will begin from May 28. The online registration process will be open from May 28 to June 15 while offline forms will be accepted at the registration centres from June 5 to June 15. The first cut-off list will be announced on June 25.
