Mayank Gandhi, students to join traffic cops' road safety

Activist Mayank Gandhi will join city traffic police's ongoing 'national road safety programme' from tomorrow along with 400 students of a suburban institute.
Gandhi, along with the students of Chetna Institute of Management and Research, Bandra, will be part of the programme from January 12 to January 19, Fulora Foundation stated in a release.
A series of traffic management drive at accident-prone points in the vicinity will be conducted during the week, it said.
The Foundation is a voluntary organisation which has conducted several social activities in Mumbai since a few years and worked on issues relating to Mumbai's traffic for over 10 years.

The traffic management drive will be held at Kherwadi Junction, Kala Nagar, Bandra (East) for which will be the students from Chetana's Institute of Management & Research would volunteer the drive.
This drive will strive to achieve a convenient 'citizen-police interaction', through which enquiries relating to 'traffic management' will be handled, said Mayank Gandhi, a senior associate of the foundation.

We have already conducted a successful pilot project of sensitising motorists at Mumbai-Pune Expressway and we would put our harder attempts to achieve superior results in Mumbai, said Gandhi.
He said, "The ever increasing traffic at the Bandra Kherwadi junction is creating bottle neck on the Western Express Highway. This is creating traffic jam throughout the entire Highway, right up to Dahisar toll, thus inconveniencing thousands of commuters."

Hence we would be sensitising the erring motorists by pointing out their violation of traffic rules and appeal them not to repeat in future, said Gandhi adding that this experiment of involving students in the smooth running of traffic and supporting government agencies, if successful, will be scaled up in the close future.
