Pratiksha Wagh, who was studying in a medical college at Ambejogai in the neighbouring Beed district, took the extreme step yesterday, Investigating Officer Vishnu Munde of Pundliknagar police station said.
She had come to her residence here to prepare for the examination, which was scheduled to start from 21 July, the officer said, adding the reasons behind the incident were yet to be known.
However, Pratiksha's father Motiram alleged that she was a victim of ragging at her college hostel.
A case under relevant sections of IPC was registered and investigations are underway, police said.
