The Mumbai Cricket Association has asked former India skipper Ajit Wadekar whether he wishes to continue in the association's Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC).

The 77-year-old Wadekar and former Mumbai batsman Amol Mazumdar are members of the CIC, which can have a maximum of six members.

"I asked Mr Wadekar last Friday and again earlier this week, whether he wants to continue in the CIC. We are waiting for his reply," a senior MCA official told PTI.

Last week Wadekar, who led India to their first Test series win in the West Indies and England in 1971, was discharged from a city hospital after recuperating from an illness.

It is understood that Wadekar has attended only a few CIC meetings in the past.

According to the official, if Wadekar is not keen to continue, former Mumbai off-spinner Kiran Mokashi will be considered for inclusion in the CIC.

The 61-year-old Mokashi played 47 first class games, grabbing 146 wickets.

"The MCA Committee of Administrators is likely to take a final call on the CIC next week," the official added.

Meanwhile, the official claimed that former India pacer Aby Kuruvilla has expressed interest to coach Mumbai after former stumper Sameer Dighe quit after just one season.
