Marxist Coordination Committee (MCC) MLA Arup Chatterjee today surrendered to a local court and was sent to 14 days judicial remand in connection with a six-year-old case.
He surrendered in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Rita Srivastav.
Chatterjee, whose bail expired a few days ago, was charged with interfering with official work when he had staged a protest on the issue of labour payment at Mugma colliery of the Eastern Coalfields Limited in 2007.
The then Regional Assistant Manager of the ECL had lodged the FIR under section 353 (assault or use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty) against the Left leader.
