MCDs to pass resolution against sealing drive: Delhi BJP chief

The three BJP-ruled municipal corporations of Delhi will hold a joint emergency meeting on January 27 to pass a resolution for a six-month ban on the ongoing sealing drive in the national capital.
The announcement was made today by the BJP's Delhi unit president Manoj Tiwari who was accompanied by three mayors Kamaljeet Sehrawat (SDMC), Preety Agarwal (NDMC) and Neema Bhagat (EDMC).
Delhi MCDs have undertaken the sealing drive initiated on the orders of a Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee. Commercial premises have been sealed for failing to deposit conversion charges, for changing the category of land usage, such as from residential to commercial, according to provisions in the city's Master Plan 2021.

Tiwari today said the resolution passed by the MCDs will also provide for one-year time to the traders and residents to pay conversion charges and fulfil other formalities required for regularisation.
"We appeal to the Lt Governor Anil Baijal to coordinate between the Centre, the Delhi government and the civic bodies and to make an appeal in the Supreme court in this regard," Tiwari said.
He also accused the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government of being "negligent" in notification of roads for commercial use and regularisation of unauthorised colonies in the city.

The three mayors refuted AAP's allegation that conversion charges collected by the corporations have been misused.

Under the sealing drive being conducted by north and south municipal corporations, scores of commercial units have been sealed for non-payment of conversion charges.
The traders observed "Delhi Bandh" yesterday to protest the sealing drive and have threatened to shut sbops for indefinite period if they are not provided relief from it.
The Confederation of All India Traders has written a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to bring an ordinance to provide the community relief from the sealing drive.
