None of those who had attacked the doctor last night were arrested, one of the agitating doctors said, adding "If such attacks continue, doctors and nurses will leave the hospital."
Principal of the medical college Dr N C Bhattacharjee said repeated attacks were taking place on doctors and other staff of the institute.
Dr Jayanta Jyoti Laskar of the paediatrics department was assaulted by a group of people after a six-month-old baby died.
Laskar said the baby was brought to the hospital in the morning and was treated in the OPD section. Later the parents were advised to take the child home.
The baby was again brought to the hospital during the night but the infant was already dead by then, the doctor said.
