Meghalaya govt signs MoU with New India Assurance for MHIS III

Meghalaya government today signed an MoU with a public sector general insurance company to roll out its enhance phase-3 of Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS-III) for nearly three million people.
Meghalaya, Health and Family Welfare secretary H M Shangpliang who is the designated CEO of the scheme signed the MoU with Delhi-based Senior Divisional Manager of New India Assurance Company, B K Das, here.
The MHIS-III is aimed at enhancing coverage of up to Rs 2.8 lakh comprehensive spectrum of health services in empanelled hospitals in the state and across the country, according to the MoU.
Senior citizens will get an additional Rs 30,000 coverage, it said.
The MHIS-III has been designed to fully integrate with the existing public health system in the state and will also significantly expand the number and quality of speciality and superspecialty hospitals empanelled, a statement of the government said.
The second phase of the state health insurance, the MHIS-II, had ended since October 2016 but the MHIS-III could not be rolled out on time in view of some insurance companies who had participated in the bid backed out at the last moment, Health Minister Roshan Warjri had told the Assembly during the Budget session.
Nearly 3.5 lakh households in the state have enrolled in the second phase of the MHIS of which is about 50 per cent of the total households in the state excluding 10 per cent of who are employees of the state government.
The MHIS-III does not cover state and central government employees.
